Ein Unternehmen ist die Menge von verketteten Prozessen, die zur Zielerreichung notwendig sind. Das Stichwort ist Prozess. Wodurch wird ein Prozess gekennzeichnet? Erstens durch die Rate, mit der er Ergebnisse produziert. Zweitens durch die Menge des im Prozess befindlichen Materials (Puffer, Zeit
etc.), das für die Ergebnisproduktion benötigt wird. Drittens durch die Aufwendungen, die zur Aufrechterhaltung des Prozesses notwendig sind. Mit diesen Größen können wir nicht nur einen einzelnen Prozess beschreiben, sondern auch das Unternehmen als Ganzes:
1. Durchsatz – ist die Rate, mit der ein Unternehmen Ergebnisse produziert. Im Falle eines Unternehmens mit dem Ziel der Gewinnerzielung ist es die Rate, mit der das Unternehmen Geld generiert.
2. Bestände – sind alle Mittel, die in das Unternehmen fließen, um in Durchsatz umgewandelt zu werden.
3. Aufwendungen – sind alle Mittel, die notwendig sind, um Bestände in Durchsatz umzuwandeln...
